Eugene (Gene) Victor Shaff of El Cajon, CA, passed away at home on Jan. 20, 2019, after a short illness. Gene was born in Omaha, NE, on August 24, 1933. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. After his service, he married Ann Goebel and together they raised seven children in California and Oregon.

Gene played minor league baseball in California before settling down to have a very successful career in the construction industry. He oversaw the construction of several major buildings in locations up and down the west coast of Washington, Oregon and California.

Gene was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time with his family camping, hunting, fishing and playing golf. Gene later met and married Jean M. Swanson in 1997, at their home in El Cajon. Together they had a blended family that included 12 children, 16 grandkids and 11 great-grandkids.

Gene is survived by his wife, Jean Shaff; and his children, Gail Clymer (Chet), Robin Swann (Craig), Wade Shaff (Mari), Kim Voos (David), Tracy Shaff and Ellen Cook. His stepchildren, Debbie Montez (Jay), Don Swanson (Lori), David Swanson, Dan Swanson (Colleen), and Darryl Swanson (Shiloh). His brothers, Dennis and Lyle Shaff; and sister, Barbara. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Maxine Shaff; and his daughter, Dawn Layne.

A memorial service to honor his life will be held in El Cajon, California, April 24, 2019.
