CHEERLEADING
Ravens, Outlaws trophy at state — Ridgeview finished second and Sisters placed fourth in their respective classifications Saturday in the OSAA cheerleading state championships, held at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland. Ridgeview won the second-place trophy in 5A, scoring 185.6 points to 188.7 for champion South Albany. Members of the Ravens cheer squad are seniors Alexis Gresser, Grace Larkin, Ashlea Stevenson and Gracee Potter, juniors Kaytlyn Barber and Jordyn Haser, sophomores Chaela Baker, Jamie Drake, Madison Princehorn and Marissa James, and freshmen Kaylen McAdams, Vivian Landon, Peyton Browning and Jayda Kunkel. The Ridgeview team is coached by Shantell Bourgeois. Sisters claimed the fourth-place trophy in 4A, scoring 170.8 points to champion Newport’s 189.8. The Outlaws roster includes seniors Abigail Busick, Roy Gannon and Errin Hongel, juniors AriAnne Griffy and Victoria Shellswell-White, sophomore Rachelle Dale, and freshmen Ana Cole, McKenzie Shellswell-White and McKenna Brinkman. Sisters is coached by Gabrielle Griffy.

OHSET Central District sets opening meet — The first meet of the Oregon High School Equestrian Teams season for the Central District is scheduled for this week in Redmond. The three-day competition is set for Friday through Sunday at the Deschutes County fairgrounds. The district consists of teams representing Bend, Crook County, La Pine, Mountain View, Redmond, Ridgeview, Sisters, Summit and Trinity Lutheran high schools, as well as teams from Dufur, Hermiston, Lakeview, Pendleton and The Dalles. Competition in a variety of roping and riding events will start at approximately 8:30 a.m. each day. Admission is free.

Saints junior is MVL player of the year — Trinity Lutheran’s Matt Eidler has been named the Class 1A Mountain Valley League’s player of the year. Eidler averaged 19.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.6 steals for the Saints, who finished second in the MVL this season. Trinity Lutheran’s Scooty Gilbert was voted all-league first team. Central Christian’s Jace Mills and Josh Biever were second-team selections, and Trinity’s Layton Valentine received honorable mention. Gilchrist pair named all-Mountain Valley — Gilchrist’s Kendra Spurlock, a senior, and Rayenne Hoover, a junior, have been named to the Class 1A Mountain Valley League all-league second team. Central Christian sophomore Isabella Mills received honorable mention. The complete all-Mountain Valley League teams are listed in Prep Scoreboard.
NOTABLES
Sisters High has named Alan Embree its new head baseball coach. The former major league pitcher coached Summit High in Bend to the Class 5A state championship in 2016 and for the past two years has been head coach of the Bend Elks of the summer collegiate West Coast League.
