Boston-based string quartet Darlingside, a favorite of the Sisters Folk Festival since playing the event in 2014, returns to play the festival organization’s Winter Concert Series at Sisters High School on Wednesday. Since losing drummer Sam Kapala in 2013, the band has found its identity in folk and bluegrass, exploring more acoustic sounds on its sophomore album, 2015’s “Birds Say,” and last year’s “Extralife.” The shift has been beneficial business-wise (including with the folk festival) as well as artistically: “We’re getting to play these really out-of-the-way places where we didn’t know there would be that many music listeners who have been so hospitable and welcoming around the country,” guitarist/banjoist Don Mitchell told GO! Magazine in 2016.

Darlingside, with River Whyless: 7 p.m. Wednesday; $22.50 plus fees in advance, $15 plus fees in advance for ages 18 and younger, $5 more at the door; Sisters High School auditorium, 1700 McKinney Butte Road, Sisters; sistersfolkfestival.org or 541-549-4979.
