- Stand-up paddleboarders often take out or start at Riverbend Park in Bend.
The stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) craze has taken over Bend during the past 10 years or so. SUP is a great core workout and a nice way to enjoy the Deschutes River without having to swim in its frigid water.
The No. 1 spot for SUP in Central Oregon is all about accessibility. Riverbend Park along the Deschutes is a section that runs right through Bend and is just a short drive for most Bend residents. Numerous put-ins and takeouts along this stretch also make it convenient. The shallow waters near the park also make the area good for beginners.
As spring turns into summer, more and more stand-up paddleboarders can be seen on this popular stretch of the Deschutes. Those looking for a lake paddleboarding experience can drive up Cascade Lakes Highway from Bend and find plenty of options. The Where to GO! survey participants also selected a few lakes deemed perfect for SUP boarding.
