- The Deschutes Historical Museum in Bend is applying for coronavirus relief funds through the Oregon Cultural Trust, a state organization that promotes cultural preservation.
Portland State University’s Archaeological Roadshow will host its inaugural event in Central Oregon at the Deschutes Historical Museum in Bend on June 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The roadshow will introduce the public to local heritage and the science of archaeology in a hands-on way, according to organizers.
The roadshow will feature presentations and activities hosted by archaeologists and community members with local and traditional knowledge from universities, federal and state agencies, tribes, archaeology companies and nonprofit organizations.
In addition to the exhibits and activities, a panel of experts in archaeology and geology will identify the personal artifacts that visitors bring to the event.
Stone, bone, woven, plant and historical items are welcome. Live plants or animals are not welcome.
The experts will not give appraisals to authenticate or value items.
