Authorities on Monday were still searching for an Oregon City man who fell into Lake Billy Chinook on Friday.
Patricio Pineda, 52, was attempting to dive off a pontoon boat when he hit his head before going into the water, according to Jefferson County Sheriff Jim Adkins. Pineda was not wearing a life jacket and sunk out of sight before his friends could reach him.
The area where Pineda entered the water is about 275 feet deep.
Adkins said Search and Rescue boats continue to patrol the area. Outside experts with special equipment have been contacted to assist, Adkins said.
“I do not have confirmation as to when any outside agency will arrive to assist us,” Adkins said.
This is the second man to be presumed drowned in Central Oregon within a week. Authorities continue to look for Michael Mead, 29, of Bend. He was in a canoe that capsized Thursday at Wickiup Reservoir.
