Roundabout at Shevlin Park Road, Mt. Washington should reopen next week

The end is near for detours and delays caused by the construction-related closure at the NW Shevlin Park Road and NW Mt. Washington Drive intersection.

The roundabout, which has been closed since the middle of May, is anticipated to reopen by July 3.

The intersection sees a significant amount of traffic from both drivers and bicyclists, as it sits along the route to Shevlin Park, which is known for its hiking and biking trails.

The roundabout was redone with concrete, not asphalt, and will need to pass quality control testing before it can be reopened to traffic, said David Abbas, streets and operations director for the city of Bend.

The roundabout was originally supposed to reopen around June 27, but construction crews ran into some unanticipated underground utility work part way through the project, Abbas said.

While the road is expected to open before Fourth of July, drivers should expect some cleanup efforts to continue around the roundabout.
