Granger Smith returns to Bend

Country is still king in Bend, judging by sales numbers for KSJJ-FM’s summer country concert series at Oregon Spirit Distillers. Two of the five shows announced in the series, Cody Johnson, July 19, and Tyler Childers, Aug. 1, have been sold out for months, and the series opener Sunday featuring Texas country songwriter Granger Smith and his redneck alter-ego, Earl Dibbles Jr., is close, according to a post from KSJJ on the event’s Facebook page. Smith, who played the Midtown Ballroom in April 2018 and has been teasing new album “When the Good Guys Win” for an October release, could use the support from Bend’s country fans: Earlier this month, his youngest son, River, drowned in an accident at the Smith family’s Texas home. Smith returned to the stage last weekend at the Country LakeShake festival in Chicago, where he performed a tribute to his son.

Granger Smith, with Earl Dibbles Jr., Jackson Michelson: 7 p.m. Sunday, doors open at 6 p.m.; $25 plus fees in advance, free for kids ages 3 and younger; Oregon Spirit Distillers, 740 NE First St., Bend; bendticket.com, oregonspiritdistillers.com or 541-382-0002.
