- Swimmers enter the chilly water of Wickiup Reservoir in 2019 during the first leg of the 72.3-mile Beastman Triathlon, one of the featured events of the Pacific Crest Endurance Sports Festival in and around Sunriver. This year, the Pacific Crest events will be staged in Bend, and the swim leg of the triathlons will take place in the Deschutes River.
Hundreds of athletes and weekend warriors jammed Sunriver Resort for the 23rd year of the Pacific Crest Endurance Sports Festival, put on by Vancouver, Washington-based Why Racing Events.
In addition to the 72.3-mile Beastman Triathlon, Saturday’s other events included marathon and half-marathon runs. The three-day Pacific Crest Festival concludes Sunday with Olympic, ultra and sprint-distance triathlon, duathlon and aquabike races at Wickiup starting at 8 a.m.; kids dashes (1-mile and half-mile races) at Sunriver Village, also starting at 8 a.m.; and 5K and 10K run/walk events at Sunriver Village starting at 8:30 a.m.
