A rundown of games and events to watch for locally and nationally from the world of sports (all times Pacific):
Monday
Professional tennis, Wimbledon in London, 4 a.m.-1:30 p.m. (ESPN): Play gets underway at the All England Club, site of the only Grand Slam tournament played on grass. Defending champions Angelique Kerber and Novak Djokovic lead their respective fields into the fortnight of competition, which culminates with the women’s final on July 13 and the men’s final on July 14.
Tuesday
Women’s World Cup soccer in Lyon, France, USA vs. England, noon (Fox): Megan Rapinoe and the No. 1-ranked Americans battled their way into the semifinal round with a 2-1 victory over host France on Friday and now face No. 3 England for a berth in the final against either Sweden or the Netherlands; the title match is set for 8 a.m. Sunday (also on Fox).
Thursday
West Coast League baseball, Ridgefield at Bend, 6:35 p.m.: The Elks close out their first home series ever against the expansion Raptors from southwest Washington. The Fourth of July game falls on a Thirsty Thursday promotion night at Vince Genna Stadium, where fans are invited to stay after the game to watch the annual fireworks show at Pilot Butte.
Thursday
Running, Todd Beamer Memorial Run in Madras: In its 23rd year, this fundraiser for the Todd Beamer Memorial Scholarship is a signature Central Oregon Fourth of July event. In addition to the featured 10K run, which starts at 8 a.m., the event includes a 6-mile walk (7 a.m.), a 5K run (7:45 a.m.) and a 2-mile fun run (9 a.m.), all staging at Sahalee Park. Thursday
Multisport, Splash-N-Dash in Prineville, 8 a.m.: A benefit for Crook County High School track and field, the Splash-N-Dash features a quadrathlon (swimming, cycling, kayaking and running) and includes a triathlon and a duathlon, all for teams or individuals. A 5K running race for individuals is also part of the fun. For more information, go to splashdash.org.
