A Bend man was arrested early Monday after police say he tried to burglarize a gun store after-hours.

Brandon Alan Petri’s arrest came less than a month after being convicted of burglarizing a separate firearm store in Bend.

At around 12:30 a.m. Monday, an alarm was tripped at Deschutes Arms and Munitions at 319 SE Logsden St., Bend. Officers arrived to find a broken window and two firearms outside the business. Believing a suspect was still inside, they set up a perimeter, according to a news release.

“A short time later, an officer observed a suspect fleeing on foot from the location,” said Bend Police spokeswoman Lt. Juli McConkey.

“Officers pursued the suspect … and took him into custody.”

Petri, 19, allegedly admitted under questioning to stealing 14 firearms from Deschutes Arms and Munitions.

He’s being housed without bail in Deschutes County jail and is accused of five criminal counts including first-degree theft and second-degree burglary. In addition, Petri has been charged with violating conditions of parole from a different recent arrest.

In that case, Petri in May used a blunt instrument to break into Trigger Happy Guns on NE Butler Market Road to steal five guns. When police caught up with him, Petri had two of the firearms with him.

Trigger Happy owner Eric Priller said three of his guns are still out there, and because pawn shops use a database containing serial number information of stolen weapons, he suspects his guns were sold on the black market.

He said Petri’s penalty — 10 days in jail — was too light.

“How do you only get 10 days in jail? C’mon. It wasn’t like he stole a pack of bubble gum.”
