The Original Wailers play Munch & Music

The Original Wailers, led by longtime Bob Marley and Peter Tosh guitarist Al Anderson, will get irie at the next Munch & Music concert in Drake Park on Thursday.

And before you ask, no, this is not The Wailers, which performed at the Century Center in 2017. The Original Wailers splintered from Bob Marley’s backing band in 2008 under the leadership of Anderson and guitarist Junior Marvin, who himself went solo in 2011. Anderson briefly reunited in 2016 with The Wailers, led today by bassist Aston “Family Man” Barrett, but has since returned to The Original Wailers, which focuses on Marley classics and new material from Anderson and lead vocalist Chet Samuel (despite the name, none of the members of the group are original Wailers, including Anderson, who grew up in Montclair, New Jersey, and joined Marley’s band in 1974). Anderson and company certainly have the chops to match the name: Their sole studio recording, 2012’s “Miracle,” was nominated for Best Reggae Album at the 2012 Grammy Awards.

The Original Wailers, with The Cutmen: 5:30 p.m. Thursday; free; Munch & Music, Drake Park, 777 NW Riverside Blvd., Bend; munchandmusic.com.
