Thomas and Susan (Moody) Gage, of San Fransisco, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last week in Bend. The couple were married Aug. 2, 1969, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Bend.
While Mrs. Gage eventually came to throw lavish weddings for others in her career as a professional caterer, the couple had a simple potluck reception in the backyard of Susan’s childhood home with a cake from Safeway.
They have two children, Dr. Regan Gage (and Jesse Kurtz-Nicholl), of Bend, Chap (and Jennifer), of Washington D.C., and six grandchildren.
The couple met while Tom was at the Air Force Academy and she was attending Loretto Heights College in Denver.
Dr. Thomas Gage was a gastroenterologist and retired in 2015. After marrying, the couple moved to Washington, D.C., where he worked as a doctor at Walter Reed Medical Center. He is a docent at the Smithsonian.
Mrs. Gage grew up in Bend and is the daughter of the late Dr. Al Moody. After raising her children, Mrs. Gage went on to create her own catering company, Susan Gage Caterers, and routinely caters for the vice president, foreign dignitaries and embassies.
They have lived in San Fransisco for 20 years.
