The sounds of oompah music and flocks of dachshunds will flood downtown Bend this weekend for the annual Bend Oktoberfest, benefiting the Downtown Bend Business Association.

The festivities start Friday night, with live music from Mirko Pressler band and Bavarian style competitions including the yodeling contest, stein holding and hammerschlagen (who can drive more nails in a board).

Competitions continue into Saturday with the “Chicken Dance” contest, more hammerschlagen and the annual tricycle and wiener dog races down Irving Street.

If competition isn’t your speed, there is an open game area where giant Jenga, cornhole and other friendly games can be played.

There will be a Family Fun Zone off Oregon Avenue for more games, bounce houses, face painting, visits with princesses and more.

Of course, what’s Oktoberfest without a beer and a brat? This year nine local breweries (and one cidery) will each bring two brews to fill souvenir steins that must be purchased prior to imbibing. Steins come in two varieties, plastic ($7) or ceramic ($12) and can be purchased in a combination with a beer token for $12 or $16. Tokens get you a full 14-ounce pour and can be purchased individually for $7 each.

So, break out your lederhosen and start conditioning that stein-holding arm for the 2019 Bend Oktoberfest.
