Virginia string band The Hackensaw Boys will return to Bend on Thursday for its first show in the city in at least a decade at the Domino Room. The group, which celebrates its 20th anniversary with its current tour, helped set the template for today’s modern newgrass/jamgrass/string band revival, combining rock ’n’ roll spirit with old-timey fiddles and banjos.
At one point swelling to 12 members, today, the band is back to its quartet lineup, led by last original member standing, guitarist David Sickmen (at least 20 musicians have passed through the group’s ranks). Since it last played Bend, the group ended a long recording hiatus with 2016’s “Charismo,” and just released the five-song EP “A Fireproof House of Sunshine” this year.
