Nova Scotia pianist, songwriter and producer Erin Costelo will bring her soulful pipes to McMenamins Old St. Francis School on Thursday as part of a Great Northwest Music Tour of McMenamins venues. Costelo has worn many musical hats throughout her career: She started out playing classical piano and progressed to jazz and country bands out of college, per her biography on allmusic.com. At the same time she was honing her songwriting chops, she also worked as a sideman and producer. (Recent producing credits include albums for Leanne Hoffman, Kaia Kater and Elise Besler.) It all comes together on last year’s self-produced album (in 10 days, according to her Facebook bio) “Sweet Marie,” which delves into pyschedelia, R&B and jazz anchored by Costelo’s smoky, intimate singing, which has rightfully earned her comparisons to Nina Simone and Carole King.
Erin Costelo: 7 p.m. Thursday; free; McMenamins Old St. Francis School, 700 NW Bond St., Bend; mcmenamins.com or 541-382-5174.
