Growing up in the Catskill Mountains in southeastern New York, Matt Heckler split his budding musical talents between the area’s punk scene and its Appalachian folk and bluegrass tradition. While a cursory listen to his previous band, Deep Chatham, and his recently released solo debut album, “After the Flood,” might suggest the latter won the day, Heckler’s emotional delivery and D.I.Y.-ethos come straight from the former. Now based in North Carolina (but still in the Appalachians), Heckler shreds on fiddle, banjo and guitar and most recently opened for Flogging Molly during its March tour. He’s on the road with New Orleans (by way of Texas) folkie Casper Allen, with whom he recorded a tour-only split EP. Find out what that sounds like at the Domino Room on Friday.

Matt Heckler and Casper Allen: 8 p.m. Friday; $15 plus fees in advance; Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend; midtownbend.com or 541-408-4329.
