Brubeck Brothers Quartet takes five at Oxford

Jazz at the Oxford will continue to roll out its “best-of” 10th anniversary season with The Brubeck Brothers Quartet, which returns to the downtown Bend hotel for three sold-out performances Friday and Saturday. The group, led by bassist/trombonist Chris Brubeck and drummer Dan Brubeck (sons of famed jazz bandleader Dave Brubeck), delivered sets heavy on Dad’s classic tracks such as “Blue Rondo à la Turk” and “Take Five” at Jazz at the Oxford in February 2017. (As this reviewer put it back then, “The brothers are too good of musicians to simply re-create their father’s long-standing jazz standards. … Instead, the band kept things loose and playful.”) Since then, the band released the 2018 album “TimeLine,” which marked the 60th anniversary of Dave Brubeck’s 1958 State Department Tour with even more new arrangements of the late, great pianist’s compositions.

While all three shows are sold out, the quartet will host a free music education workshop at The Oxford Hotel on Saturday morning.

The Brubeck Brothers Quartet: 7 p.m. Friday, 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday; sold out

Music education workshop: 11:15 a.m. Saturday; free; The Oxford Hotel, 10 NW Minnesota Ave., Bend, jazzattheoxford.com or 541-382-8436.
