Charlie Parr brings country blues to Volcanic
Published 1:15 am Thursday, December 12, 2019
- Charlie Parr will perform at 8 p.m. Sept. 29 at Volcanic Theatre Pub in Bend.
Charlie Parr’s website describes the country blues and folk songwriter as “an easily confused and very shy individual” who hit the road in the 1980s in search of fellow Minnesota songwriter and Bob Dylan inspiration, “Spider” John Koerner (he found him, according to the short bio). Aside from that cryptic prose, Parr seems to prefer to let his music speak for itself. He’s released nearly an album every year starting with 2002’s “1922,” whose title track was featured in a Vodafone ad in Australia and New Zealand. His most recent, self-titled release continues his penchant for gorgeous dobro and 12-string guitar lines behind stories ranging from contemplative to just slightly off-kilter. Parr returns to Bend to bring another dose of old-school pickin’ to Volcanic Theatre Pub on Friday.
Charlie Parr, with Dead Horses: 9 p.m. Friday; $12 plus fees in advance, $15 at the door; Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Drive, Bend; volcanictheatre.com or 541-323-1881.
