Central Oregon restaurants are cooking food for the community
Published 3:00 am Thursday, April 9, 2020
- Linguiça Scramble and French toast takeout from Cafe Sintra.
With the mandatory closure of restaurants, we may not be able to eat out, but we can still support our local restaurants and get some great food. This is by no means a complete list. Please call your favorite restaurant, or check their website or Facebook page for what they are offering and to see updates of menus, schedules and more. This is happening fast, you can expect changes in the coming days and weeks.
Most will come out to your car for curbside service. It would be good to call the restaurant before you arrive. Some offer delivery. Check Grubhub, DoorDash, UberEats, and Bend TakeOut for delivery.
If you want to support Central Oregon bars and restaurants, but aren’t planning to pick up food or beverages, you can purchase gift certificates to use in the future or to give to someone in need.

A longer list of open restaurants is available at visitcentraloregon.com.
After interviewing dozens of restaurants, the verdict is in, it should be safe to order takeout and delivery during the Covid-19 shutdown. Most restaurant owners and managers assured that restaurant workers have always been careful about washing hands and disinfecting counters. Now they are in heightened mode. Those handling food wash their hands twice as much as before, between each meal prepared or more often. Gloves are changed after each order, or after 10 or 15 minutes.
Any employee who doesn’t feel 100%, no matter their symptoms, are not allowed to come in. Hand sanitizer is available where servers are handling or packing food.
Every one of the restaurants who are staying open are extremely concerned about the safety of their patrons. It seems that would be safer than if a friend or relative were cooking you a meal.
