The San Francisco 49ers and tight end George Kittle have agreed to a new record-setting deal, according to a report Thursday morning.
The team and tight end have agreed to a five-year, $75 million contract extension. The new deal will make Kittle the highest-paid tight end in the NFL history.
The deal includes an $18 million signing bonus and $30 million guaranteed at signing.
Kittle’s deal surpasses the four-year, $44 million deal tight end Austin Hooper signed with the Cleveland Browns in March. Kittle’s average annual salary of $15 million is now the league-leader at the position, eclipsing Hooper’s $10.5 million average annual salary.
Kittle, 26, was scheduled to enter the final year of his four-year rookie deal this season that will pay him a base salary of $2.13 million in 2020.
The 49ers used their fifth-round pick (No. 146) to select Kittle in the 2017 NFL draft. Kittle has posted big numbers during the past two seasons, catching a combined 173 passes for 2,430 yards and 10 touchdowns during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Kittle has registered consecutive seasons (2018-19) in which he has posted at least 1,000 receiving yards and his 1,377 receiving yards in 2018 set a NFL single-season record for receiving yards by a tight end.
Kittle was voted to the Pro Bowl in both seasons and was an All-Pro First Team selection in 2019.
