Over the past year and a half of relative silence on Central Oregon’s stages, you can bet some local bands have started, while others have unplugged for good.
Meanwhile, some of have endured. For proof, look no further than Volcanic Theatre Pub on Saturday night, where two longtime local favorites will share a bill: Blackflowers Blacksun and Boxcar Stringband. The former is the long-running blues-punk project of Greg Bryce, whose wild-eyed yelp and skills on the slide guitar sound like they were harvested from deep in the Mississippi Delta mud. The latter plays a high-energy mix of early rock ‘n’ roll, blues and rockabilly built around the songs of Joseph Balsamo.

Both of ‘em will scratch your rootsy itch, but they’ll scratch it hard enough to ensure you’re sore in the morning. This one’s for the country-gone-punks as well as the punks-gone-country.
