- A Bend Fire & Rescue firefighter works to extinguish a blaze Tuesday at 60181 Cinder Butte Road in Deschutes River Woods.
Arson is believed to be the cause of two fires that damaged a detached garage on a property in Deschutes River Woods on Tuesday.
The fire located at 60181 Cinder Butte Road was first reported to Bend Fire & Rescue around 8:30 p.m., according to a press release. The owners were home and told 911 dispatchers that a fire was burning their detached garage.
When firefighters arrived, they found a second fire inside a motor home on the property. Crews stopped the spread of both fires, containing them to the garage and motor home. Estimated damage has been set at $20,000.
The fires appear to be intentionally set, fire officials said. Responsibility for investigating the suspected arson is now in the hands of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s office.
Dan Derlacki, deputy fire marshal for Bend Fire & Rescue, said in an email that arson has occurred in Deschutes River Woods but there are no trends or “anything out of the ordinary” in Deschutes River Woods compared to other areas of Bend.
