The COCC Big Band Jazz group, seen here in 2018, will return to the stage Sunday after a 2-year absence, playing a free, hourlong concert at Caldera High School in Bend.

This weekend, the Central Oregon Community College Big Band Jazz ensemble will return to live performance after a two-year absence, performing a free concert at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Caldera High School auditorium, 60925 SE 15th St., in Bend.

Band Director Sarah Owen will lead the 18-member ensemble, which features community members from high schoolers to seniors, in a program featuring arrangements by Count Basie, Chick Corea, Woody Herman, Toshiko Akiyoshi and others.

“It’s a little bit shorter program than we normally do, but it will be about an hour of music,” Owen told GO! “We are very excited. Just the energy of being in person again is just really great. It’s been really refreshing and motivating.”
