The secret to Bend’s and Central Oregon’s success has been its innovation and willingness to help others, even competitors, succeed.
The “all boats float” mantra was really taken to heart here, as demonstrated by the micro brew companies that helped startups with advice and equipment.
I heard it before I landed here at The Bulletin 2½ years ago and I’ve seen it many times over since then.
This Sunday we’re publishing in print and online business features of that innovation called Bend Profiles in a magazine format. A similar one for Remond will come out at the end of March.
It simply fascinates me where people get their ideas for a startup and how they shape them into viable businesses. Writing about this topic was one of the main reasons I got into journalism. The publication looks at firms ranging from heart monitors to handmade leather gloves. It’s a small slice of what Central Oregon has to offer, of course, but we hope you take a look. And always look at our daily and Sunday business sections for more on such innovative firms.
The other reason Central Oregon is the place to be is, of course, the outdoors and entertainment. Here’s a chance to vote for your favorites. The GO! Guide has a survey out called, “Where to GO! And What to DO! In Central Oregon.” If that weren’t enough, there’s a prize drawing for those who fill out the nomination scorecard.
To enter a nomination, go to the link here. The survey closes on March 7.
And, if you’re in the voting mood. Our battle of the best food trucks is in its third week. So far, we’ve received 1,364 votes by 474 individuals.
Vote for your favorite food truck and be entered to win a $50 Old Mill District gift card. Take our Food Truck survey and you’ll be entered in an additional drawing for one of eight gift cards to local food trucks. Click on this link.
