Deschutes County Search and Rescue help an injured woman from Tumalo Mountain on Friday, March 4, 2022.

Deschutes County Search and Rescue volunteers helped a woman who injured her knee while snowshoeing Friday morning near the top of Tumalo Mountain, close to Dutchman Flat Sno-park.

A 911 call at 7:26 a.m. reported an 18-year-old woman from Redmond had injured her knee while descending the mountain on snowshoes.

The woman said she fell and twisted her knee, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Friday. While she waited for help, her friends who were snowshoeing with her kept her warm.

After the 911 call, 10 search and rescue volunteers responded, making their way through the back country using skis and snowshoes. They found the injured woman at around 10:23 a.m.

The rescue team placed her in a rescue sled and took her about 1 mile down to the parking lot at the sno-park where, she was helped into a personal vehicle. The woman said she needed no further assistance and would seek medical care on her own.
