The Cascade Highlanders is composed of pipers and drummers dedicated to pipe band music, which includes the Great Highland Bagpipes, snare, tenor and bass drum. The 12-person group stays busy all year long performing for private functions, festivals, holidays, memorials and parades. But March is their busiest time of year as venues seek out their traditional Irish and Scottish sound for St. Patrick’s Day.
“Many of our members learned to play the pipes or drums through the bagpipe and drum lessons we offer to prospective members,” said Susan Jensen, founder and pipe major of the Cascade Highlanders. “Our goal is to introduce, educate and entertain our audiences about Celtic culture and pipe band music through our performances.”
Jensen said The Cascade Highlanders pipe band is a non-profit family oriented organization whose proceeds earned go to the band fund for costs including equipment and uniforms.
“This is kind of our main fundraiser, St. Patty’s Day, for the year,” said Jensen. “So we go around, we play different venues and hope for tips from the crowd.”

“We’ve all come together because we have a love for the instrument of bagpipes,” said Jensen. “We love the band family and that’s why we do it.”
