The Commons hosts Texas singer-songwriter Jeff Plankenhorn in Bend

Jeff Plankenhorn plays Sunday at The Commons Cafe & Taproom in Bend.

Jeff Plankenhorn is walking, talking evidence of the depth and breadth of the Austin, Texas, music scene over the past couple of decades. A talented singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, the guy’s own music hasn’t yet made him a household name — at least not 2,000 miles away in Bend, Oregon.

But in Austin, his skills with stringed things have made him an in-demand sideman; he has accompanied top-shelf songwriters like Ray Wylie Hubbard and Joe Ely and collaborated with artists such as Patty Griffin, Ruthie Foster and Bob Schneider. When he’s making his own music, he offers a warm, rich and bluesy take on Americana that sounds something like a less scraggly Steve Earle.

Jeff Plankenhorn: $15, 7 p.m. Sunday, The Commons Cafe & Taproom, 875 NW Brooks St., Bend, thewhippoorwillpresents.com.
