The Bend City Council plans to swear in Angela Ruocco as the next Municipal Court judge next week, the city announced Thursday.

Ruocco currently works as an administrative law judge for the state of Oregon in Eugene. She will replace current Municipal Court Judge Gwen Moore, who was appointed in 2020.

Hailing from Baltimore, Maryland, Ruocco worked as the assistant city solicitor in Baltimore and the assistant attorney general for the state of Maryland.

On top of her work as a lawyer, Ruocco has also worked as a teacher, professor and mentor, a press release said. The release said she hoped to inspire “principles of equality, fairness and freedom in the next generation of students and new lawyers.”

An official swearing-in ceremony for Ruocco will be open to the public at 5 p.m. on Sept. 8 at the Bend Municipal Court at 555 NE 15th St.
