Mother and daughter arrested in Madras after police find 7 pounds of meth

A mother and daughter who were stopped by a state trooper Sunday evening for speeding in Madras were arrested for allegedly possessing over 7 pounds of meth.
Shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Luz Maria Ramirez-Gutierrez, 42, of Yakima, Washington, and Reyna Paola Marin-Ramirez, 20, of Kennewick, Washington, were allegedly speeding on U.S. Highway 97 near E Street in Madras, according to a news release from the Oregon State Police.

A state trooper pulled them over, and during the stop, the trooper “noticed signs of criminal activity,” the release said. Ramirez-Gutierrez and Marin-Ramirez consented to a search of their Hyundai Elantra, the release said.
The trooper found more than 7 pounds of methamphetamine, according to police.
Ramirez-Gutierrez and Marin-Ramirez were taken to the Jefferson County jail on suspicion of possession and manufacture of a controlled substance and attempted distribution of commercial quantities of methamphetamine, the release said.
As of Monday afternoon, the mother and daughter were still in jail, according to the jail’s roster.
