Heroin seized by Deschutes County Sheriff's Office.

Police arrested a 61-year-old man last week after finding nearly a pound of heroin in a Redmond storage unit.

An investigation into Roy Ashbaugh found he was allegedly distributing heroin acquired from drug trafficking organizations based in Mexico, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit.

Investigators found that Ashbaugh was distributing heroin at several homeless encampments around China Hat Road in southeast Bend, the sheriff’s office said in a news release Wednesday.

During the investigation, a large quantity of heroin was discovered inside a storage unit rented by Ashbaugh in Redmond, and on March 2, Ashbaugh was found in Terrebonne and arrested.

Ashbaugh is being held at the Deschutes County jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance and delivery of a controlled substance, the release said.
