Deschutes County to gather input on long-range plan

Deschutes County will host multiple open house and pop-up events in April to gather public input on Deschutes County 2040, its comprehensive plan update project.

The county will host six events in Alfalfa, Bend, La Pine, Terrebonne and Sisters throughout the month of April, according to a press release.

“Community members are invited to provide their thoughts and perspectives on policy directions for key issues facing the County through the next 20 years,” the release said.

Some of the questions the county seeks answers for include, “How should low-value farmland be used? What type of housing should be allowed in rural areas? What role should the County play in parks and recreation? What type of incentives should be offered to conserve water?”

Each of the four open houses will be held using the same format. Attendees will hear about the Deschutes County 2040 project, and then they will break into small groups to discuss, the release said.

The two pop-up events, one in Terrebonne and one in Alfalfa, are for interested community members who are short on time, the release said.

If interested community members are unable to attend any of the events, an online discussion forum is available through May 5. More information on the county’s comprehensive plan can be found at www.deschutes.org/2040.
