Earn a free pint for each Central Oregon butte summited

Registration is open for the Big Butte Challenge, an invitation to summit eight Central Oregon buttes between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

A free pint is offered after the completion of each butte, in addition to custom merchandise, a swag bag and other perks from Cascade Relays sponsors, according to the press release. Additional prizes are awarded for the first to summit all eight buttes, best photos and more.

The cost of entry is $60 for all eight buttes for adults, $15 for youth and $20 for one butte.

Once registered, participants may hike or run on their own schedule with a custom GPS map. The tracking technology has been simplified and time logged to reach the top is no longer a consideration, according to the website.

Note that a physical beer token is required to redeem a pint from each sponsored brewery. Event packets may be picked up between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, from Haven Coworking, 1001 SW Disk Drive, Suite 250, Bend.

The buttes and breweries involved this year are Bessie Butte sponsored by Van Henion Brewing, Black Butte sponsored by Deschutes Brewery, Pilot Butte sponsored by Worthy Brewery, Barnes Butte sponsored by Wild Ride, Overturf Butte sponsored by Goodlife Brewery, Tumalo Butte sponsored by Cascade Lakes Brewery, Misery Ridge sponsored by Kobold Brewing and Paulina Peak sponsored by Bend Brewery.

Participants are invited to share photos online with #bigbuttechallenge and tag @cascaderelays and the brewery partners.

Big Butte Challenge continues through Sept. 4; $60 for adults for all buttes, $20 for one butte, $15 for youth; 541-350-4635, bigbuttechallenge.com, info@cascaderelays.com
