Fatality reported in July 4 house fire in west Medford

One person was killed Tuesday evening in a residential fire in west Medford, the Medford Fire Department confirmed Wednesday.

Jayda McClendon, communications coordinator for the city of Medford, said the department would not be releasing the name of the victim at this time. McClendon said she didn’t know the fire victim’s gender.

Fire crews responded to a three-alarm fire at 801 S. Columbus Ave., at about 8:11 p.m., according to fire officials. Crews were able to extinguish the fire just after midnight Wednesday, according to information provided on the fire department Facebook page.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to fire officials.
