The Old Mill District in Bend is getting a new tenant — and a big one at that.

Lifestyle and women’s clothing retailer Anthropologie, which has nearly 240 stores worldwide, is set to open to the public on Wednesday in the Old Mill District.

The Pennsylvania-based company specializes in high-end women’s clothing, shoes and accessories but also sells home decor, furniture and bridal items. Anthropologie has two stores in Portland.

Anthropologie is owned by publicly listed Urban Outfitters, which reported a 12.6% decline in net sales in the second quarter this year compared to the same period a year ago. Urban Outfitters’ portfolio was boosted by Anthropologie, which saw its sales increase 10.6% during the same period.

The store in Bend will host an event at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the first 100 customers receiving a free gift. Local food vendors will be around to keep the shoppers fed from noon to 7 p.m. The store is located at the northern end of the Old Mill complex, close to the Mio Sushi restaurant.
