- Cyclists ride around the east rim of Crater Lake. The seventh annual Ride the Rim event will be held the next two Saturdays at Crater Lake National Park.
The eastern portion of Crater Lake National Park’s rim road will close to vehicles for two days this month for the annual Ride the Rim event.
On Saturday and Sept. 16, vehicles will only be permitted from the North Junction to the park headquarters on the western side of the lake. Cars won’t be able to access any portion of the eastern road on these days during daytime hours, leaving them open to the public for bicycle use. Pedestrians and runners are also welcome to use the vehicle-free roads.
The 25-mile East Rim Road will open at 8 a.m. and remain closed to vehicles until 6 p.m. Riders can continue along the western portion of the lake for a full 33-mile ride, but the final 8 miles are with traffic and no shoulder. A shuttle for people, but not bikes, will be available between the Rim Village and North Junction.
