Portland standouts The Macks visit Silver Moon

The Macks bring their high-energy mix of blues and indie rock to Silver Moon Friday.

Since 2004, the Portland alt-weekly Willamette Week has run an annual poll of the city’s music insiders and concert regulars to determine the best new band in town. Past winners include such luminaries as Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside, Help, Radiation City, Chanti Darling, Lithics, Talkdemonic, The Shaky Hands and Ural Thomas & The Pain.

Also: The Macks, who will play Silver Moon Brewing with local fave Cptn Over Friday night. The five-piece band took the title in 2022 on the strength of their fine album “Rabbit” as well as their high-energy shows. At a time when pop and hip-hop have squeezed rock bands all but out of the mainstream consciousness, The Macks’ sound is a throwback blend of heavy blues, classic swagger, angular indie rock and propulsive punk spirit.

Think the Rolling Stones, White Stripes, MC5 and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and you’re in the right musical ballpark. (And that’s a really nice ballpark.)

The Macks and Cptn Over: 7 p.m. Friday, $12 in advance, $15 at the door, Silver Moon Brewing, 24 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend, silvermoonbrewing.com.
