- The Gold Souls play Thursday at High Desert Music Hall in Redmond.
If you catch The Gold Souls Thursday night at Redmond’s beautiful High Desert Music Hall, make sure you take a moment to take in both sides of the Sacramento band.
First, there’s the side that’s hard to miss: The one that pumps out fun, vibrant and irresistible blues, soul and funk grooves with impressive effortlessness. It’s this side that can turn a quiet and serene concert space into a sweaty dance floor and a night to remember.
Then there’s the side that’s a little less obvious. That’s the one with the thoughtful lyrics full of positive messages intended to inspire that same audience that was just dancing its brains out in the previous paragraph. It’s the side Submerge Magazine was talking about when it wrote this about the band: “The Gold Souls (are) crafting good-time music while never losing sight of its implications about life, the self and the soul.”
Both sides of The Gold Souls are powered by dynamic vocalist Juniper Waller, keyboardist Alex Severson, drummer Billy D. Thompson, guitarist Chris Paisley, bassist Avery Jeffry and, according to the band, the first all-women horn section in its home region, saxophonist Madison Armstrong, trumpeter Liliana Moore and trombonist Kari Anne Estrada. Now that’s cool!
The Gold Souls: 7 p.m. Thursday, $20, High Desert Music Hall, 818 SW Forest Ave., Redmond, highdesertmusichall.com.
