Midtown Ballroom hosts Dope Lemon

Who is the most famous Australian musician named Angus? It’s almost certainly Angus Young, the short-pantsed, duck-walking guitarist for classic rock titans AC/DC.

But ask a 20-year-old that same question and you might get a different answer: Angus Stone, who is best known as one half of the beloved Australian dream-folk duo Angus & Julia Stone, alongside his sister … you guessed it … Julia Stone.

More pertinently, he’s the creative force behind Dope Lemon, a solo project in which Stone makes incredibly accessible indie-pop-rock music dipped in ultra-cool, slightly psychedelic vibes. On his new album, “Kimosabè,” Stone’s music is lightly funky and late-night hazy, like Bob Dylan meets Tame Impala, or the Dap-Kings playing Strokes songs. Or something.

Dope Lemon is exactly the kind of stuff that appeals to a generation that spent the pandemic streaming lo-fi beats to study and/or chill to, so don’t be surprised if the Midtown Ballroom is more full than you expected on Friday night, or if Stone is playing even bigger venues in the next few years.

Last but not least: In case you were wondering, yes, opener Franklin Jonas is the brother of the Jonas Brothers! He is the one Jonas brother who is not also a Jonas Brother. A bonus Jonas, if you will.

Dope Lemon, with Franklin Jonas: 8 p.m. Friday, doors open 7 p.m., $27.50, Midtown Ballroom, 51 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend, midtownballroom.com.
