The suspects in the Hillsboro house party shooting that killed one teenager and injured another on Saturday are Derek Torres and Obed Rivera, according to Washington County Juvenile Services. They are both 17.
Rivera and Torres each face likely charges of second-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, unlawful use of a weapon and first-degree assault in the shooting death of a 17-year-old Hillsboro High student and wounding of a 16-year-old, according to juvenile services spokesperson Jennifer Cearley.
The names of the victims have not been officially released.
Officers responded to the shooting in the 200 block of Northeast 34th Place at about 7:50 p.m. on Oct. 21. The Hillsboro High student was killed by the gunfire. The 16-year-old, a student at Liberty High School, was treated at the scene and taken to a local hospital, police said.
Rivera and Torres, who were students in the Hillsboro School District, will next appear in court on Nov. 7, Cearley said.
