Bend High, Sisters advance to volleyball state championship matches

Two Central Oregon high school volleyball teams will be playing in state championship matches on Saturday night.
No. 7 Bend High will take on No. 1 Crescent Valley in the Class 5A state title match at Forest Grove High School at 6 p.m., and No. 1 Sisters will battle No. 2 Pleasant Hill for the Class 3A crown at Springfield High School at 6 p.m.

The Lava Bears beat two higher-seeded teams on Friday to advance to the title match. First, they upset No. 2 West Albany 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-13) to reach the semifinals, then they took down No. 3 Crater 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 25-23, 25-5) in the semifinals.
The Crescent Valley-Bend final is a rematch of last year’s 5A title match, which the Raiders won in three sets.
Bend will be looking for some payback and for its third state title in the last eight years, after winning championships in 2016 and 2017.
In the Class 3A semifinals on Friday night at Springfield, Sisters defeated No. 5 Valley Catholic in a five-set marathon after dropping the first two sets (17-25, 17-25, 27-25, 25-16, 15-9).
In the 3A quarterfinals earlier on Friday, Sisters defeated No. 8 Corbett 3-0 (25-5, 25-20, 25-14) to advance to the semifinals.
Sisters won 4A state titles in 2014, 2016 and 2017, and was the 4A runner-up in 2021.

Also in the Class 5A tournament at Forest Grove, No. 9 Summit fell to Crescent Valley 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-20) in the quarterfinals on Friday. The Storm will take on No. 5 South Albany in the consolation bracket Saturday at 8 a.m.
In the Class 4A state tournament at Springfield High School, No. 7 Crook County fell to No. 2 Marist Catholic 3-2 (21-25, 28-30, 25-14, 25-20, 15-8) in a quarterfinal match. The Cowgirls will take on No. 6 Tillamook on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the consolation bracket.
In the Class 1A state tournament at Ridgeview High School in Redmond, No. 3 Trinity Lutheran lost to No. 6 St. Paul 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-15) in the quarterfinals on Friday. The Saints will play No. 7 Crosshill Christian in the consolation bracket on Saturday at 10 a.m.
