Central Oregon outdoors and trail conditions

Published 3:30 pm Thursday, November 16, 2023

Tumalo Falls Trail is lined with soaring aspen trees that drop yellow and gold leaves.

Except for possible scattered showers Saturday, this week’s forecast looks clear with temperatures reaching the mid-50s, making it a great time to head to the mountains.

Sno-parks have opened up, but Deschutes National Forest trail crew supervisor Joe Welke said Tuesday in a trail update that mild temperatures and rain have melted away much of the mountain snowpack. Trail users may encounter snow above 5,000 feet, Welke said. When the snow comes, be sure to pick up a permit before heading out.

NOTE: There is snow above 5,000 feet and many summer trails have snow on them. These trails remain open, but may be accessible only by snowshoeing, cross country skiing or other means due to accumulating snowpack. See forest websites for more details and restrictions.
