- Colorado's The Motet will bring the funk Thursday at the Midtown Ballroom.
News flash: New Year’s Eve (and this year, the weekend beforehand) is one of the biggest parties of the year, and most good parties include good sounds. Here are just a few of the events happening in Central Oregon this weekend that revolve around live music:
On Thursday night, kick your year-end run off right at Midtown Ballroom (51 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend) with a killer double-bill: Denver-based funk-rock jam band The Motet and self-described “brass house” band Too Many Zooz from New York City, which turns saxophone, trumpet and drums into totally dope and unique dance music. This show is going to turn your legs into jelly! 8:30 p.m., doors open 7:30 p.m. $20 in advance, $25 at the door, midtownballroom.com.
On Friday night, the Domino Room (51 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend) will host Call Down Thunder, a Grateful Dead tribute band. The Hasbens will open with a set of Phish’s music. Also planned: A photo booth, crafts, a pajama party theme and visuals by Trippy Lights. 8 p.m., doors open 7 p.m., $15, midtownballroom.com.
If you love the jammy, bluegrassy Americana band Railroad Earth — and a lot of people do — you’ll have not one but two chances to see them before the calendar turns to 2024.
The veteran New Jersey combo will play both Saturday and Sunday night at Midtown Ballroom (51 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend), which means double the jams, double the fun! At midtownballroom.com, you can buy $35 tickets for Saturday, $47.50 tickets for New Year’s Eve, or you can pay $75 and go to both.
If you’re in Sisters on Sunday, you can spend the end of the year at The Belfry (302 E. Main Ave., Sisters), where the wonderful, globally inspired funk ‘n’ soul group Reb & the Good News will be unspooling the good vibes all night, accompanied by the always enjoyable Bend Burlesque Co. doing what they do best. 8 p.m., $42, belfryevents.com.
Last but certainly not least, if you’re looking for a New Year’s Eve gathering focused squarely on the LBGTQ+ community, check out Sunday night’s Eleganza Ball at Volcanic Theatre Pub. More info is at volcanictheatre.com.
