Girls
Reina Barnes-Rubio, Redmond wrestling: It was a dominant showing at the Northwest Duals in Albany for the 135/140-pounder. Barnes-Rubio won each of her seven matches (six of them by pin) in the first round to help the Panthers finish second as a team at the tournament Dec. 28-29.
Anna Bales, Crook County basketball: The Cowgirls’ leader in points, scoring and steals was named to her second all-tournament team of the season for her performance at the Clarke Cochrane Christmas Classic in Alaska. In one game at the tournament, the freshman nearly had a triple-double with 14 points, 12 steals and nine rebounds.
Valerie Bowman, Bend wrestling: In six matches at the Northwest Duals, the 115/120-pounder pinned all six of her opponents, with three of them coming in the first round.
Boys
Pearson Carmichael, Summit basketball: In the Storm’s last five games, Carmichael has averaged 33.2 points per game, including a pair of 40-point games. He broke the school record with a 42-point game against Grant on Dec. 19, then broke that record with a 44-point performance against Liberty at the Les Schwab Invitational on Dec. 28, where he was named to the All-Tournament team.
Billy Jackson, Redmond wrestling: The 126-pound junior won all eight of his matches at the Northwest Duals in Albany. Jackson finished with three pins and two technical falls to help the Panthers to a second-place team finish.
Diego Silva, Sisters basketball: The junior wing averaged 10 points per game during the three-day Sisters Shootout, including a 15-point performance in the Outlaws’ 50-36 win over Mazama on Dec. 28.
Logan Hartman, Bend wrestling: The 215-pounder won all seven of his matches at the Northwest Duals Dec. 28-29, helping the Lava Bears to a 7-1 record and a fifth-place finish. Hartman finished with five pins.
Scout Santos, Mountain View wrestling: It did not matter whether the reigning 5A state champion was wrestling in the 132- or 138-pound weight class at the Northwest Duals, because Santos won all eight of his matches. Santos had seven pins in his eight matches to help the Cougars to a fourth-place finish.
Landyn Philpott, La Pine wrestling: At the Sierra Nevada Classic in Reno, Nevada, Philpott was named the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler after winning all seven of his matches by pin to win the 138-pound weight class and become the first La Pine wrestler to place first at the tourney.
