A community meeting is planned Jan. 16 to discuss safety issues related to hunting on federal land near Sunriver.

The meeting is being held to address concerns that residents have related to shooting in proximity to residential areas.

Deschutes County Commissioner Tony DeBone will convene the meeting. Multiple agencies will be on hand to respond to questions, including the U.S. Forest Service.

The meeting comes two months after an incident near Sunriver that involved a hunter killing a female elk close to homes in Sunriver, north of Spring River Road.

The meeting begins at 5 p.m. at The Door at Three Rivers (56885 Enterprise Drive in Sunriver). Attendance is possible through Zoom via this link: bit.ly/3RVaO2m.
