Bend Police are trying to find two men suspected of trying to rob a man at gunpoint at a car wash Tuesday night.
Police found one of the suspects Thursday afternoon, but he escaped, according to Bend Police.
Despite using police dogs and drones, officers still had not located the suspect, Ethan Russell Christensen, 38, of Bend, as of Friday afternoon, according to a press release from spokeswoman Sheila Miller.
The attempted robbery occurred at the Red Carpet car wash on NE Twin Knolls Drive around 10:45 p.m. The victim told police the following morning that he had parked in a car wash to clear snow off of his truck when two men parked in the bay next to him and approached him.
One of the men, the man said, pointed a gun at him and demanded that he hand over his wallet and money. The man fought the suspect and managed to get into his truck and drive away. Police say Christensen was one of the men.
Police found Christensen driving in a black Jeep Grand Cherokee heading east on Arizona Avenue near Wall Street at around 5 p.m. Thursday. They tried to stop him in the Old Mill District around the intersection of Bluff Drive and SW Bond Street, but police say Christensen sped into oncoming traffic, hit two cars and he fled.
Police found the Jeep Grand Cherokee at Farewell Bend Park and searched the area with dogs and drones but couldn’t find Christensen.
“Bend Police may provide a cash reward for information that leads to Christensen’s arrest,” Miller’s press release said. “If you have information about Christensen’s whereabouts, you’re asked to call nonemergency dispatch at 541-693-6911.”
