Ethan Russell Christensen

Bend Police arrested an attempted robbery suspect Tuesday, five days after they say he fled from police by speeding into oncoming traffic during an attempted traffic stop.

A SWAT team responded to the Home 2 Suites hotel near NE 27th Street and U.S. Highway 20 in Bend and arrested Ethan Russell Christensen, 38, of Redmond, without incident at around 4 a.m. Tuesday. He was being held in the Deschutes County jail Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of first-degree robbery, second-degree assault and other charges, according to the online inmate list.

Livingston is one of two men suspected of trying to rob a man at gunpoint at the Red Carpet Car Wash on NE Twin Knolls Drive at around 10:45 p.m. on Jan. 9.

Police have yet to identify or arrest the second suspect. Sheila Miller, a department spokeswoman, said the investigation into that suspect is ongoing.

A man told police on Jan. 10 that he had parked in a car wash when two men parked in the bay next to him and approached him. One of them, the man said, pointed a gun at him and demanded that he hand over his wallet and money, but the man managed to escape.

Police said they found Christensen driving in a black Jeep Grand Cherokee around 5 p.m. Thursday. He escaped, hitting two cars as he drove into oncoming traffic, police said.

Police found the car in Farewell Bend Park and searched the area with dogs and drones but couldn’t find Christensen until Tuesday.

Police offered a cash reward for information as they tried to find Christensen, but Miller said the department won’t share whether it gave anyone any money “for safety reasons.”
