- Towering waves pound the Oregon and Washington coasts in January 2019 near Cape Disappointment on the Long Beach Peninsula, across the Columbia River from Oregon. New research suggests forests and marshes near surf breaks store about 88.3 million metric tons of carbon dioxide.
Along with a week of snow, freezing rain and frigid temperatures, storms brought big waves to the Oregon Coast.
The rest of the state has started to recover from the power outages, downed trees and closed schools. See Page A2.
