Bend Democrat and former tech executive Matthew Davie has filed to run for Oregon’s 5th Congressional District, according to federal campaign records.
Davie could be the fourth Democrat candidate on the primary ballot running to represent the district that stretches from Bend to southeast Portland. The winner of the May 21 Democratic primary election will likely face incumbent Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, R-Happy Valley.
Davie has owned a home in Bend since at least 2018, according to Deschutes County property records. He currently runs a business out of Bend called Davie Partners LLC, but he was previously an executive at Kiva, a San Francisco-based foreign affairs nonprofit.
The 5th District stretches from southeast Portland to Sunriver and takes in several cities near Interstate 5 including Albany, Lebanon and Sweet Home, in addition to Bend, Redmond and Sisters in Central Oregon.
Other Democratic candidates are Jamie McLeod-Skinner of Terrebonne, state House Rep. Janelle Bynum, D-Clackamas, and Lynn Peterson, the president of the Metro Council, which oversees Portland’s regional government. In 2022, McLeod-Skinner lost the race to Chavez-DeRemer.
