A pair of departing stars in Oregon’s football offense added to their list of honors, this time for their work in the classroom.

Running back Bucky Irving and quarterback Bo Nix were named first-team academic all-Americans, College Sports Communicators announced Tuesday.

Irving and Nix are the third pair of teammates in school history to earn the distinction, the most recent being Joey Harrington and Ryan Schmid in 2001, and the first being Steve Barnett and Ed Thomas in 1962.

Irving had a 3.63 cumulative GPA at Oregon, majoring in family and human services. Nix graduated from Auburn with a 3.62 GPA and a degree in communications before transferring to Oregon and maintaining a 3.91 post-graduate GPA.

Oregon’s most recent first-team academic all-American was quarterback Justin Herbert, who earned first-team honors in 2017-19. Before that, no Duck had made the all-academic first team since defensive lineman Nick Reed in 2007 and 2008.
